2026 So Far
REMEMBER the Fallen. . . HONOR those who Serve. . . TEACH our children the value of Freedom.
Welcome to the MI0189P - Fort Custer National Cemetery Advisory Committee Project Fund, a Community Project Fund of the Battle Creek Community Foundation's Wreaths Across America Page.
On December 19, 2026 at 12:00 pm, Fort Custer National Cemetery Advisory Committee members and many other volunteers will be helping Fort Custer National Cemetery to Remember and Honor our veterans by laying Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes.
Please help us honor and remember as many fallen heroes as possible by sponsoring remembrance wreaths, volunteering on Wreaths Day, or inviting your family and friends to attend with you.
Fort Custer National Cemetery is one of two national cemeteries in Michigan, created under the National Cemeteries Act of 1973, and operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs as part of the National Cemetery System. It is the regional national cemetery for Region5/Great Lakes Region, which covers Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Congress created Fort Custer National Cemetery in September 1981, and the first burial took place on June 1, 1982.
As of early 2026, there are more than 46,000 people laid to rest here.
The Fort Custer National Cemetery Advisory Committee is a volunteer group made up of representatives of a dozen veteran and veteran-support organizations in the Greater Battle Creek area. The Advisory Committee meets bi-monthly with cemetery staff. The Advisory Committee organizes and hosts the annual public Memorial Day and Veterans Day services; supports the volunteer Honor Guard squads; finances and assists with the upkeep and maintenance of the Avenue of Flags; and contributes in other ways as needed, through volunteer hours and financial donations.
